About Gold River

about-gold-river

Our pottery is handmade on Vancouver Island B.C. in the small town of Gold River located 1 hour from Campbell River.

Our studio and gallery is located in a converted gas station building formerly known as the Mohawk. The owners of the building completely renovated both inside and outside and our studio takes up a third of the building. Also, on site is a nice bistro and a garden area with the property being right beside the Gold River.

Our work is stoneware pottery with a carved process of finishing called sgraffito, as well as other glazing techniques. Our pottery includes trays, bowls, mugs, jugs, plates vases, sets and much more. You will find a nice memento of your visit to Gold River in the designs. Neil’s work is finished in wildlife and fish designs and Anita’s is more eclectic with additions of local flora and fauna.

Gold River is such a beautiful place to visit and every year attracts many hikers, ocean and river kayakers, rock climbers, fishermen and campers. Strathcona Park boasts some of the most beautiful hikes in the world for beginners to extreme outdoor enthusiasts, you will find a trail that suits your skill level. Nootka sound is home to some of the best fishing grounds with any number of resorts to stay at and charter from or launch your own boat from the Muchalat Inlet. If you have a kayak you can board the M.V. Uchuck 3 and the boat will wet launch your group or deliver you to Friendly Cove at Yuquot. There you will be able to take a scenic beach walk or hike the beautiful and historic Nootka Island. Air Nootka will take you from Gold River to anywhere in the Sound. You will have the most memorable experience flying above the myriad of islands that dot Nootka Sound. Common sightings of the area may include grey or humpback whales, sea otters, black bears and bald eagles.

Locally, Gold River is home to about 1300 residents and small shopping area. There is an Elementary School, High School, RCMP detachment, Ambulance, a Community and Recreation Centre with a beautiful pool and arena, Golf Course and restaurants and more. Gold River is in the traditional territory of the Mowachaht Muchalaht People.

We have found Gold River to be a beautiful village to live in and we draw from that beauty to create signature handmade pottery. We have raised our family and owned and operated two businesses here. Currently we create and sell our work in our studio gallery at Unit B 500 Industrial Park Place just over the Gold River on the way to the waterfront. We hope you stop by the next time you come to our town, whether for work or pleasure, you will love it here!
