Description

This pottery bowl is handmade in Gold River,B.C. which is located on Vancouver Island, the source of my artistic inspiration. Each piece is either thrown on the wheel or formed with slabs of clay and then finished with original designs using a sgraffito technique. Once the carving is done, I spray on a layer of liquid clay called terra sigilatta.  It is then dried and bisque fired. In the last stage it is glazed in green and fired again to cone 5 in an electric kiln. Although it has a decorative nature, my pottery is also very functional and dishwasher and microwave safe. My goal is to make pottery that brings a touch of the West Coast to your home during coffee time, teatime or any kind of mealtime. I hope you will enjoy using the pottery as much as I love making it.

What is sgraffito? sgraffito is a decorating technique which involves scratching through a surface to reveal a contrasting colour underneath. In my case, I apply a dark coloured slip over a white clay body.

Whenever the opportunity arises, I try to get out and photograph the landscape and wildlife that surrounds our community and eventually some of those images find their way onto the surface of a pot.
